Barrick (Niugini) Limited (BNL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold and Zijin Mining Group. The Porgera Gold Mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.   

Position Objective

The Engineer, Senior Mine Planning Underground supervises the Underground Mine Planning team in the preparation of life of mine plans and all work related to achieving that plan. This includes short and medium term plans, schedules, and development designs, cut-off grade calculation, ore reserve shape creation, and reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare the Underground Life of Mine (LOM) plan with support from the Underground Manager

• Ensure all LOM projects are communicated effectively to key stakeholders such as the Underground Manager and relevant Superintendents

• Prepare capital budget and LOM physicals for operating budget

• Prepare mid-year and year-end ore Reserves estimates and report including COG optimisation and calculation

• Obtain sufficient knowledge of the Underground Mine and operations to effectively prepare LOM designs for all underground development

• Provide advice in relation to planning, scheduling and presenting the outcome, findings and recommendations of scenario analysis for all scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, completed on projects for the inclusion into the annual budget and LOM plans.

   

  To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following:

• Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or related discipline

• Significant experience in Underground Mine Engineering (5yrs +)

• Significant experience in Life of Mine Planning

• Experience in the management of underground mine water

• Experience in the design, installation and management of mine ventilation systems

• Experience in drill and blast engineering

• High-quality computer skills in MS Office application are essential

• The ability and willingness to train and develop national employees

• Previous experience working in PNG or other developing countries, desirable

• The ability and willingness to train and develop national employees;

• Current Drivers Licence.

   

  Your primary location will be the Porgera Mine Site. An on-travel allowance will be provided to candidates who reside outside of Cairns, Australia. The roster for this role is a fly in, fly out rotation on 16 days on, 12 days off. 

   

  The Company will provide assistance as per BNL Relocation Policy to relocate the successful candidate to Cairns, Australia if the candidate holds a current visa to reside in Australia. The offer for this role is conditional upon the candidate successfully obtaining and retaining a visa that allows you to work in Papua New Guinea.
