Position Description:

Barrick is looking for an Open Pit Geotechnical Engineer to join the Ground Control team. The successful applicant will have a degree in Geological, Geotechnical or Mining Engineering and 2-5 years of practical open pit rock mechanics experience. This individual will report to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer. The Open Pit Geotechnical Engineer will lead and develop the geotechnical projects and activities for the Williams Open Pit.

Responsibilities:

• Daily visual inspections of the open pit mining activities to identify rock slope hazards
• Assist with instrumentation implementation and maintenance
• Conduct geotechnical mapping
• Review and optimize blast performance for wall control
• Analyze geotechnical monitoring data and maintain databases
• Assist with ground control safety training programs
• Supervision of contractors, as necessary
• Organization of on-call monitoring and systems training
• Other duties as required

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mining, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering
• 2-5 years’ experience in slope stability or open pit mining field
• Experience with geotechnical slope monitoring equipment (radar, total stations/prisms, mpbx, etc)
• Experience with open pit / underground interactions is preferred
• Familiarization with geotechnical software packages
• Ability to work outside in varied weather conditions for extended periods of time
• Flexibility in work hours for on-call and call-outs, as needed
• Proven attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
• Excellent organizational, time management and office management skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently
• Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal skills, with a courteous and pleasant customer service focus
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Capability to multi-task, self-manage and self-motivate
• Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
