Project Geologist

Position Description:

Overseeing all aspect of the safe and environmentally responsible operation of exploration project generation, design and execution.   

Responsibilities:

Pipeline/Project Management

• Ensure safety and health procedures are in place and followed

• Ensure environmental procedures are in place and followed

• Ensure proper community relations (land, permitting, archaeological issues)

• Ensure all proposals are consistent with company strategy (size and types of deposits, etc)

• Prepares and assists in preparation of annual budget material

• Completes and supervises geologic mapping, geologic data compilation/ synthesis and interpretation, drill target recommendation, drill program design and management, core and RC chip logging, 3D geology modelling

• Supervision of Staff and contract geologists, Geotechnicians

• Execution of program with minimal supervision by senior staff

• Reviews and provides feedback on all technical and project proposals and ensure adherence to best practices

• Ensure projects have clear and appropriate decision points and that they are adhered to

• Conduct project field visits: prior to start up for planning, during the project on a regular basis and post project for closure verification

• Ensure that projects are completed in time and on budget

• Ensure adequate quality control procedures are in place and adhered to

   

Communication

• Rapidly communicate all significant events to senior management

• Complete monthly progress reports and track budget activities

• Provide clear recommendation for decision and follow-up work if appropriate

• Consult with specialists and colleagues (to ensure quality interpretations)

Barrick Nevada is an integrated gold mining operation that combines the Cortez and Goldstrike properties in Nevada, employing a total of 3,000 employees and 800 contractors. The operation utilizes both open pit and underground mining methods with Autoclave and Roaster processing facilities at Goldstrike and Milling/Heap Leaching facilities at Cortez.
