Barrick (Niugini) Limited (BNL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold and Zijin Mining Group. The Porgera Gold Mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.

Reporting directly to the Contracts Manager the Contracts Superintendent coordinates all aspects of PJVs major Contracts (Services and Goods Forward Purchase Agreements) to ensure value for money and compliance. The position ensures goods and services are procured to the satisfaction of corporate and site requirements and in accordance with PJVs policies and procedures.

  • Managing the end to end Contract process

  • Developing appropriate Scopes or Specifications with the relevant user departments;

  • Sourcing through competitive bidding processes (RFT & RFQ), including identification of suitable suppliers; preparation of tender documentation and management of the tender process; coordination of supplier evaluations meetings; facilitation of relevant approvals and monitoring of contractor performance.

  • Negotiating terms and conditions of the contracts and creating contracts for execution for approval by the Contracts Manager and user departments.

  • Analysing proposals, pricing financial reports, and other data to determine reasonableness of prices.

  • Developing a network of potential suppliers and contacts.

  • Leading cost analysis and cost improvement initiatives.

  • Expediting orders to ensure timely delivery against agreed KPIs.

  • Ensuring prompt resolution of Buyer managed invoice holds to facilitate on-time payment of approved supplier invoices.

  • Liaising with End Users, Legal advisors and other Supply functions to ensure a comprehensive and value adding service is provided.

  • Sourcing and purchasing of goods and services in accordance with Corporate Supply Chain policies and procedures.

  • Preparing and issuing Purchase Orders in accordance with policies and procedures.

  • Sourcing and pricing materials according to order specification, at competitive prices and value, for approval by the customer.

     

    To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following:

     

  • Tertiary qualification in Supply Chain Management, Commerce or relevant discipline.

  • Strong computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing and spreadsheet software.

  • Extensive experience working with in a large organisation

  • Competency in the use of ERP (preferably Oracle) procurement modules or similar.

  • Good negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to communicate and establish rapport with staff at all levels and from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the business.

  • Knowledge of sourcing and contracting principles and practices, including competitive bidding and probity requirements and processes.

  • Proven experience in a supervisory role in relative technical area.

  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment (preferable).

  • The ability and willingness to train and develop national employees;

  • Current Drivers Licence.

     

    Your primary location will be the Porgera Mine Site. An on-travel allowance will be provided to candidates who reside outside of Cairns, Australia. Alternatively the Company will provide assistance as per BNL Relocation Policy to relocate the successful candidate to Cairns, Australia if the candidate holds a current visa to reside in Australia. The roster for this role is a fly in, fly out rotation on 16 days on, 12 days off.
