PITTSBURGH–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The EQT Foundation today announced that it awarded more than $5.5 million in 2015 to community organizations and initiatives throughout EQT’s operating areas by way of grants, matching gifts, United Way donations, and scholarships presented to recipients in its ASPIRE, Students of Excellence, and other educational programs.

As the charitable arm of EQT Corporation, a Pittsburgh-based integrated energy company, the EQT Foundation has awarded more than $36 million to various groups since its inception in 2003. The Foundation is committed to helping communities prosper by supporting education for our children – especially in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) disciplines; encouraging the development of diverse neighborhoods; supporting the environment and preservation of local natural resources; and sponsoring local programs that promote greater understanding and appreciation of arts and culture across EQT’s operating areas.

In 2015, EQT Foundation grants alone totaled more than $3.5 million and were distributed to approximately 70 individual, non-profit organizations that have a variety of focus disciplines including community outreach, economic development, education, and arts and culture. Southwestern Pennsylvania:

• Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh Waterplay exhibit, a hands-on activity highlighting the principles of buoyancy, hydraulics and conservation
• Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania exhibit on the history of energy in southwestern Pennsylvania
• Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh sponsorship of the June 2016 Pittsburgh Pride festival
• Washington County Fireman’s Association to implement a hands-on gas well training pad for area firemen
• Pittsburgh Cultural Trust 2016 EQT Children’s Theater Festival
• Foundation for Free Enterprise Education for students from Greene and Washington Counties to attend Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week 2016

West Virginia:

• Mountaineer Food Bank to distribute produce to people in need in EQT’s operating areas
• West Virginia Women Work for the Step Up for Women Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program
• Doddridge County 4-H Teen Leaders for creation of an interpretive nature trail that will support environmental educational programs
• Opportunity Council Youth Works literacy program
• Charleston Ballet “Ballet for All” program, which provides at-risk youth and families opportunities to attend performances

Kentucky:

• Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road to underwrite STEM programs for economically disadvantaged girls in Appalachia
• University of Kentucky Robinson Scholars Program, which provides university experiences for first generation college students from eastern Kentucky

Virginia:

• Radford University Foundation Inc. to expand the Radford University Science Days outreach program for elementary students
• Appalachia Volunteer Fire Department to fund the replacement of outdated gas detection monitoring equipment
