(IDEX Online News) – Lucara Diamond Corp has announced successful results from the mini bulk sample program on the BKD2 kimberlite, which is located 30 kilometers east of the Karowe Mine.
The company said that a total of 274.33 carats was recovered from the processing of 5,916 tons of BKD2 for a sample grade of 4.6 carats per hundred ton. The largest stone recovered was a 5.48-carat brownish octahedron. A total of 24 stones greater than 1 carat were recovered. Apart from the 5.48-carat diamond, the 2 largest stones recovered were 2.26- and 2.03-carat diamonds.
The sample results showed that BKD2 kimberlite’s coarse size distribution is similar to that observed at the company’s Karowe Mine.
“The results from the completion of the first bulk sample of the BK02 kimberlite are very encouraging and an important milestone for Lucara,” said Lucara president and CEO William Lamb. “The completion of this sample together with the ongoing exploration of the prospecting licenses and the commencement of the deep drilling on the south lobe opens up the opportunities for Lucara to fulfil its commitment to the expansion of our resource base in the Orapa District of Botswana.”
Lucara has also undertaken a further 10,000 meter drilling program to test the inferred resource below 400 meters within the prolific South Lobe of the AK06 kimberlite.
