Radical economic transformation is a key driving force behind the creation of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Amendment Act (MPRDA) Amendment Bill, says Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) mineral policy and promotion deputy director Nhlanhla Jali. Speaking at the Gauteng Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Economic Development, Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development public hearing on the Bill, on Thursday, in Johannesburg, he emphasised that black South Africans would be provided a greater stake in the country’s mining sector through the implementation of the Bill.
