Description
Geology
Placer gold values contained to the phyllite bedrock contact with overlaying high terrace gravels. The basal gravels are pale in color due to a high quartz-diorite content. Paleo gravel channel east west coincides with a fault understood to be a placer gold source.
History
First discovered in 1886 by the creek's namesake Andrew Maiden who mined in the northern end of the property. His old workings have been found and documented/surveyed. The creek's placer value was then rediscovered in the early 2000s and has been mechanically mined, albeit in a relatively small scale.
