The Sierra Phoenix Company(Alhambra) , in 1885 ran a 10 stamp quartz mill, 8 men at work hand drilled blast holes. The lode claims covered 3,000 feet of quartz ledge within the Melones fault trend. In 1895 James Freeborough got possession of the ground, renamed it the Alhambra Group. At that point the adit went in 300’. Over the years he took out 500 ounces. In 1917 Freeborough died in the winter hiking out to La Porte. The property was picked up by promoters for a short time but very little work done. In 1940 the Scott Family (well known and successful in the local mining history) located the claims and held until 2017.
