EDS Multishaft Mill

Energy and Densification Systems (Pty) Ltd is based in Bryanston, Johannesburg, South Africa. The company was formed in 2005 to develop, manufacture and market the EDS Multishaft Mill. EDS initially held rights to the patent and carried out over 1000 successful batch tests for various clients from different industries between 2005 and 2009. In 2011 the company acquired the patents from the original inventor and was restructured and recapitalised for further research and development. The Generation 2 Multishaft Mill was introduced to the South African market towards the end of 2012.

The EDS Multishaft Mill is a compact vertical mill suitable for processing materials. The mill creates spherical particles for improved recovery and liberation of minerals with up to 75% improved efficiency in energy consumption compared to existing technologies. The mill can be combined with various pieces of equipment including feed and material handling systems, scalpers and pre-crushers, screening equipment, classifiers and filter systems to provide complete processing and handling solutions. EDS has strategically registered international patents in over 45 countries including South Africa, USA, China, Australia and Europe.

The company has its own batch testing facility in Germiston, Johannesburg used to test various products and optimise the mill for each customer through adjusting feed rate, shaft speeds, shaft orientation and discharge rate. The mill offers space savings due to its compact footprint and operates with significantly lower power consumption, allowing operation off diesel driven generators for remote operations and mobility. The mill is designed and produced in South Africa and provides environmental benefits including reducing waste from coal fired power plants and extracting value from mineral waste dumps through recovery of discarded mineral products.
