Flextra specializes in the design, development and manufacture of fabric expansion joints to allow for thermal expansion in ducts and chimney flues, vibration isolation of fans or machinery, and isolation of components for maintenance or fire risks. The company is built around more than 50 years experience in design, manufacturing and installation of high-quality thermal insulation products in a range of applications both in South Africa and other countries on the continent. Using the highest quality products from international suppliers, the team creates custom designed products for any requirement from simple tapes, ropes and cladding to fabric and rubber expansion joints. Metal expansion joints, also known as bellows, are flexible items used primarily wherever there is a need to take up thermal expansion in ducting or piping and are also used to isolate vibrations. The company is able to manufacture sizes that range from 15mm to in excess of 6 meter diameter in single or multi-ply configurations, in all the grades of stainless steel including high nickel alloy materials. All metal bellows are designed to EJMA standard and all welding conforms to the ASME IX code. The management has 15 years experience in the design, application engineering and supply of compensators.

Flextra uses woven fabrics rather than metals to provide a flexible element in an expansion joint, which allows the designer much greater freedom in space and movement capability than comparable metallic expansion joints. The freedom to move in all planes minimizes duct lengths and greatly simplifies support systems. Elastomeric or Fluoroplastic outer covers provide the necessary gas seal.
