MTG has been designing and manufacturing ground engaging tool systems for earthmoving machinery for over 65 years. Founded on 4 July 1957 by the Triginer Family, the company evolved from a non-specialized foundry for the steel industry into a pioneer in wear products for earth-moving machinery after acquiring REMOP, a teeth distributor, in 1969. MTG became an official supplier to leading European manufacturers of public works machinery including Fiat and Poclain during the 1970s.

During the 1980s, MTG licensed manufacturing of advanced products from world-leading brands in wear materials. In the 1990s, the company achieved its own European patent and introduced innovative designs including MTG SYSTEMS FIXMET and KINGMET, which established new quality and performance standards. MTG opened its North American subsidiary, MTG North America Corporation, in Houston. The company internationalized, reaching main European markets and the five continents by its 50th anniversary in the early 2000s.

In 2012, MTG inaugurated a new production plant in Monzón, Spain, one of the most advanced foundries in Europe, to manufacture larger parts and boost growth in the mining market. The plant is equipped with simulation, robotization, additive manufacturing, data analysis, sensorization, Internet of Things and Digital Twin technologies. MTG’s international presence is anchored by headquarters and a logistics center in Barcelona, Spain, with sales offices and distribution centers in Australia, Chile, USA and South Korea. The company operates a global network of over 400 dealers in more than 60 countries.

MTG develops specific ground engaging tool solutions for each application and site condition. Its Product Engineering process combines customer insight, advanced simulation tools and rigorous field testing. The foundry in Monzón employs specialized production facilities and processes many of which are proprietary, including an AOD converter, moulding facility and heat treatments designed and developed in-house. MTG’s steels, developed from long history in high quality steel production with support from major international steel experts, deliver excellent performance in field conditions.

The company holds 50 active patented inventions and 500 active patent applications across 50 countries. MTG has been holding ISO 14001 certification since 1999. In 2021, MTG initiated the Paris Agreement adherence program on climate change. Products are 100 percent steel, with scrap representing more than 95 percent of composition coming from the automotive sector and fully recycled. Direct CO2 emissions from the electric arc furnace represent less than 1 percent of scope 1 emissions, with 65.2 percent of consumed electricity coming from clean sources. MTG has eliminated 100 percent of plastic use in packaging.
