The Resources Centre of Excellence (RCOE) was established to connect the brightest minds in research, technology, education and METS to shape the resources sector of the future. The physical hub of RCOE is a central facility located in Mackay, Queensland, supported by multiple satellite extensions with a global scope. These extensions include both actual and virtual spaces that provide a platform for the development of innovative solutions for the resources sector.
The RCOE’s focus is to drive innovation, collaboration and advancement in the mining industry on a global scale. The organisation was born of strong partnerships between industry, governments, education providers, researchers, and community. Through this collaboration, the RCOE provides facilities for all things relating to resource development, with an underground mine simulated training and testing facility, emerging technology capabilities, quality training and conference facilities.
The mission is to connect the brightest minds in research, technology, education and METS to shape the resources sector of the future. The purpose is to be globally recognised as the hub of higher-level thinking for all things related to the resources sector, thereby creating significant regional economic value and demonstrating exceptional social value in communities.
Stage 2 development includes the Future Industries Hub, a collaborative space to solve industry problems with technical, digital and immersive capabilities. The hub includes a pilot processing plant to support the emerging new economy minerals sector, helping to transition and support activities around critical minerals, reprocessing of tailings and other precious metals. The pilot plant will support the development of new and improved methods for processing minerals, enabling pilot-scale demonstration of new technologies and assisting companies to increase mining yields and decrease associated costs.
Stage 3 involves the Isaac Resource Excellence Precinct in Moranbah, Queensland, designed to develop a more skilled and diversified workforce including deeper First Nations partnerships, to power the Isaac region and energise the world. The precinct aims to grow and diversify the industry, strengthen ESG credentials and protect the environment, foster coexistence and sustainable communities, ensure strong and genuine First Nations partnerships, build a safe and resilient future workforce, and improve regulatory efficiency.
