UON is a Western Australian integrated energy and water solutions company providing turnkey solutions to the mining and resources sector. The company began as a two-man operation in 1998 and has grown to be an industry leader in the design, manufacturing, supply, construction and maintenance of remote, off-grid power and water infrastructure. Many products are locally manufactured in UON’s Malaga facility based on proprietary and patented designs.

UON SMART™ products are scalable, modular, automated, renewable and temperature-controlled. The company has spent two decades designing and manufacturing equipment that is nameplate rated to operate efficiently in 40 to 50°C ambient temperatures. UON’s patented Generator Motor Controller (GMC) system eliminates the need for conventional motor starting systems, with operational efficiency meaning reduced fossil fuel use. Hybrid energy solutions combine low-fuel burn diesel generators with solar and wind options.

UON’s in-house manufacturing capabilities are located at two facilities in Malaga spanning 30,000 sqm and one in Kalgoorlie spanning 10,000 sqm. The fabrication workshop has a floor space of 8,900 sqm and is fitted with 10 tonne overhead cranes. A straddle-carrier supports the movement and loading of containers up to 35 tonnes. UON fabricates and assembles proprietary equipment solutions in-house from standardised products and maintains a dedicated International Supply Chain division.

In-house product development and testing capabilities include generator modification and testing, load bank manufacture and testing, ELV/LV control panel development and wiring, cable joining and training, factory acceptance and pre-delivery load testing, structural steel infrastructure and trailer manufacturing, headworks and pipe set manufacturing, submersible and diesel or electric driven pump manufacturing and testing, telemetry skid manufacturing and testing, in-house engineering and drafting, R&D testing facilities, hydrostatic testing, and custom-built equipment to client requirements and Australian Standards.

UON’s water management capability covers all aspects of mine water infrastructure including design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of dewatering systems as permanent or temporary solutions. The company can create solutions for open pit drainage, borefield dewatering, underground dewatering, water transfer, water storage, fire mains, potable water, tailings dams and settlement ponds. UON use the most energy efficient pumps in the market and its own generation technology.

UON has local presence throughout Western Australia and provides on-site services built around preventative maintenance and problem-solving. The company’s maintenance team conducts routine maintenance works, pre-hire checks and post-hire checks. UON offers mechanical and electrical repairs and is able to maintain other brands of engines, pumps and trailers purchased from other providers. The company services engines generally every 250 hours and has emergency-response capability for mechanical or electrical equipment failures.
