NexMetals Mining Corp. has recently filed an updated NI 43-101 technical report for its Selkirk nickel-copper-PGE project in Botswana, marking a significant milestone for the TSXV-listed company. The report, prepared by The MSA Group and filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), highlights a substantial increase in the project’s mineral resource estimates, emphasizing its potential as a major player in the region.
Substantial Resource Increase Bolsters Project Potential
The updated mineral resource estimate (MRE) for the Selkirk project outlines an Indicated Mineral Resource of 78.2 million tonnes grading 0.66% copper equivalent (CuEq), which translates to approximately 1.1 billion pounds of copper equivalent. Additionally, the report identifies an Inferred Mineral Resource of 15.1 million tonnes at 0.60% CuEq, containing around 200 million pounds of copper equivalent. This new estimate represents a 70% increase in the Selkirk project’s CuEq metal inventory compared to the previous report, as noted in the company’s news release.
This significant enhancement in mineral resources is attributed to the conversion of Inferred resources to the Indicated category following extensive re-assaying and twin drilling efforts. The updated MRE supersedes the earlier NI 43-101 technical report, effective November 1, 2024, which had been filed in January 2025.
Strategic Developments and Future Implications
NexMetals’ strategic focus on expanding the Selkirk project’s resource base aligns with its broader objectives of establishing a robust presence in the North East District of Botswana. The company had previously communicated its intention to incorporate updated data into the MRE, expected in the second quarter of 2026. The June 2026 estimate, announced on June 24, 2026, underscores the company’s commitment to advancing its exploration and development initiatives.
Despite the significant increase in indicated resources, NexMetals has not declared any mineral reserves in connection with the recent resource update. This cautious approach reflects the company’s focus on further exploration and delineation activities to enhance resource confidence and potentially convert these resources into reserves in the future.
Market and Industry Impact
The updated resource estimate for the Selkirk project is a pivotal development for NexMetals, enhancing its competitive positioning within the global mining industry. The substantial increase in copper equivalent resources positions the company to capitalize on the growing demand for base metals, driven by the global transition towards renewable energy and electric vehicles.
Industry analysts suggest that NexMetals’ strategic investments in exploration and development at Selkirk could provide the company with a significant advantage in tapping into the burgeoning copper and nickel markets. As the demand for these critical metals continues to rise, the Selkirk project stands to play a vital role in meeting supply needs, potentially attracting interest from major industry players seeking to secure reliable sources of these resources.
Looking ahead, NexMetals is poised to continue its exploration efforts at the Selkirk project, with a focus on identifying high-grade mineralization and expanding its resource base. As the company advances its exploration and development initiatives, it remains well-positioned to contribute to the region’s economic growth and development while enhancing shareholder value.
