The Eminent # 1 Uranium Property is located 14 kms east of Grand Bank on the Burin Peninsula (NTS 1M/4), Maps 1 and 3. The property is underlain by the Devonian Grand Beach Complex, comprising quartz-feldspar porphyritic granite and associated ash-flow tuffs, rhyolites, agglomerates and associated epiclastic volcanic rocks (O’Brien et al. 1977).

The property is partly underlain by the St. Lawrence Granite, which is an alaskitic (A-Type) granite exposed in a series of north-south-trending lobes. To the south, previous work has shown anomalous concentrations of uranium in the granite. Hematite alteration is widespread, particularly marginal to joint surfaces. A porphyritic phase of the granite which intrudes hornfelsed Marystown Group sediments, is locally associated with uranium and zinc anomalies, e.g. the Radex Showing (1790 ppm), Little Lawn Brook and the Happy Showing (Golden Dory Resources website). Grab samples collected from Little Lawn Brook have assayed up to 1.866% U3O8.

Zones of strongly bleached and brecciated porphyry (episyenite) occur locally adjacent to contact with the hornfelsed sediments. The breccias are locally in filled with base metals.

Davenport et al (1977) reported several uranium anomalies in lake sediment samples over the Grand Beach Complex.

At Grand Beach Anomaly # 4, the anomalous zone has a strike length of up to 830 m. In this area, rhyolitic porphyry flows are underlain by pyroclastic sediments.

Geochemical values ranging from 4-2800 ppm uranium (Pitman, 1979). At anomaly # 3, the anomalous zone has a strike length of up to 200 m and is underlain by rhyolite porphyry flows and pyroclastic sediments. In this area, the Grand Beach porphyry outcrops continuously along a N-S stream which runs throughout the anomaly. No radioactivity was noted (background 110-130 cps). Rock geochemistry gave values from 51-1300 ppm U.

During the 1977 to ‘79 field seasons, B.P.Minerals carried out reconnaissance geological scintillometer radon and geochemical surveys. Surveys were oriented towards locating a vein type uranium occurrence in granitic rocks along with geological prospecting for disseminated molybdenum and tin veins in greisen zones. Drilling did not explain the surface geochemical and radon anomalies.
