Barrick Nevada is an integrated gold mining operation that combines the Cortez and Goldstrike properties in Nevada, employing a total of 3,000 employees and 800 contractors. The operation utilizes both open pit and underground mining methods with Autoclave and Roaster processing facilities at Goldstrike and Milling/Heap Leaching facilities at Cortez.

Position Description:

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, the Underground Mine Geotechnician is responsible for the following:

• Practicing safe work habits

• Maintaining the Core/Sample Shed and work areas in safe orderly manner

• Maintaining inventory of muck sampling supplies at underground sampling stations

• Collecting of muck samples and tickets underground

• Verifying muck samples collected to muck tickets and note any variances on sample log; generating sample submittal sheet and sample logs

• Delivering muck samples to on-site laboratory and ensure proper submittal procedures

• Maintaining inventory of sampling and drilling supplies

• Collecting and delivering of drill core and cuttings to logging or assay facility

• Core and chip preparation (Jerome readings and washing)

• Photographing of core/chips

• Cutting and chipping of core

• Preparation of sample bags & chip trays and print tickets for drilling programs including chip samples

• Sampling of core and chips

• Entering sample tickets in to drill hole database

• Adhering to site QA/QC program

• Sorting and checking samples before dispatch to required laboratory

• Sample dispatch and submission to laboratory

• Core and Chip tray management

• Pulp/Reject management; sampling compositing

• Entering geology drill logs into Acquire Database

• Geotechnical core logging; Waste rock environmental sampling

   

   

• Collecting of density samples

• Disposal of discarded core/chips in compliance with environmental policies

• Ensuring equipment is in clean working order

• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Excellent safety record required

• Ability to work within a team environment required

• Possess strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required

• Ability to complete task with limited supervision required

• Minimum of two years’ experience in underground, open pit mine operations or exploration preferred

• Familiarity with drill rigs and sample dispatch preferred

• Familiarity and ability to use fork lifts preferred

• Familiarity with various Microsoft software preferred

• Familiarity with AcQuire and other software packages preferred
