Gas Well API # 4705300217 near or on the property is positive for 6 coal seams. 1908 Maps of Pittsburgh 8a(Pomeroy) and Pittsburgh No. 8 coal by Chief Geologist Bownocker, Ohio Geological Survey depict the seams directly across the river from Glenwood in Ohio. The property represents a localized thickened deposit and in area of no mining since before the great depression, there is no information on modern West Virginia coal maps. However, shortly before I uncovered the Gold Coupon Bonds, I found antique maps of showing the area of the Glenwood deposit. It took research over a period of years to find the series of Pittsburg coal deposits along the Ohio River identified by the West Virginia Geological Survey. According to information obtained thus far, the Pittsburg seam should be found at about 660' Feet above sea level on the property. Its possible both seams have come together as this is common in nearby Gallia County , Ohio where the Pittsburg 8 and Pomeroy 8a seams similarly occur. It is also possible the second seam on this property is the "Little Pittsburgh" rather than the Pomeroy 8a. Little parting between these two coal seams may account for the largesse of Pittsburg/Pomeroy//Little Pittsburgh coal seams reported near the property. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources provided data across the river from the property, 2.95 miles away indicating 20 feet of Pomeroy 8A coal in the Johnson Mine (c. 1907) . 4 miles away at Clover Station, West Virginia, Allegheny Series coal 8 Feet thick as Indicated by the (Jenkins Well API 4702200527) in the West Virginia Geological Survey Book of "County Reports" Cabell Lincoln and Wayne Counties 1911, Dr. I.C. White . Three miles upriver at Mercers Bottom, Mason County, West Virginia 10 Feet of little Pittsburg, Pittsburg or Pomeroy 8a coal was mined for decades by the Barnett Coal Company, The Mercers Mining Company, and the Keester Mine 7' 1/2" of coal, noting its exceptional quality.

In 1907 a Pennsylvania syndicate led by Pennsylvania coal magnate William H. Taylor, established The Glenwood Coal and Coke Company of Mason County, West Virginia, with a capital stock of $100,000. Thhis group was involved in many coal mining enterprises. The new company’s chief works would be located at and around Glenwood, W.Va. The company assembled a contiguous block of 4,022 acres, removed one tract of 95 acres in the 1908 deed making it 3,927 acres of coal with a plan to mine two seams of the Pittsburg District, above drainage, FOURTEEN FEET IN THICKNESS and to produce coke in coke ovens on the property. American Bank & Trust Company was trustee to Gold Bonds a until 1932 whenthe bank and the coal company dissolved the assets thereof going to the State of West Virginia. The scientific analysis and map of the property presumably lost at that time.
WVGES identified and mapped the commercially significant, localized Pittsburg coal deposits at and around Glenwood, West Virginia in 1904,1908,1910, and 1921. I recently discovered that there had been $750,000 in gold coupon obligation circulated for this coal mining project in the form of GOLD CORPORATION BONDS secured as a "First Mortgage" Deed of Trust. There is no obligation to the Gold Bonds which are now obsolete.
The coal company heirs, from whom I acquired the property, had owned it for decades having inherited it from their parents. The previous owners had operated several coal mines in Mason County, and in Ohio. Their father had purchased the Glenwood coal lands from the State of West Virginia at tax sale in 1949. We were informed their father kept this coal land as reserve and being preoccupied with other operating mines did not research, drill, map, or develop the property throughout decades of ownership. The existence of gold coupons is a recent discovery of 2022; the previous owners were not aware of the FOURTEEN FEET twin veins of coal. The Glenwood 3,927 acres is truly a lost, forgotten treasure.

Taylor, commerical agriculture, banking, and stockholder, early investor in land purchases and served as President of Glenwood Coal & Coke Co., involved in coal business transactions since at least 1899. - Died unexpectedly of a stroke in 1914 age 70.
