Summary

The gold was discovered here in early 20th century. From 1919 -1921 the property was developed by incline shaft to 126 feet and 700 feet of horizontal drift and reported as a season production mine. Obviously the company left the project hastily. No detail exploration works were reported.
Horizontal level was temporarily opened in April 1986 to allow the access for sampling. Assay results were disappointingly low. Anyway do indicate the presence of gold in some veins.

Now the project consists of 2 mining claims of approximately 32 Ha. Recent exploration work in 2019-2021 based on assay results shows the presence of Au over 30 ppm, Cu up to 9140 ppm and Ag up to 25.5 ppm.

Location and Access

The shaft is located in North-West Canada, Ontario, Algoma District. The nearest town is Bruce Mine. From the town you would travel North by Centre Line Rd than turn to the west of HW 638 after turn to the Bass Lake Rd and follow 3.5 km to the north.

Description

The Kirk Gold Prospect contains a quartz-carbonate vein carrying some visible chalcopyrite was explored for gold in the 1920’s when gold was priced at $20/ounce. The vein was reported to be 2 to 8 feet wide and carry from $3 to $6 in gold.

Geology

Nipissing diabase with granophyres phases has been intruded as an elongated body, probably a sill along the approximate contact between the Mississaugi quartzite and the Espanola limestone formation. Within the diabase is quartz-carbonate vein which appears to strike and dip conformably with the stratigraphy.
