The Queens Dowry 20.66 Acre Unpatented Lode Claim is located in the Monarch Mining District of Chaffee County, Colorado. The claim is located less than 6 miles from Highway 50. Access from the highway is via dirt Forest Service RD with either a pickup truck or ATV.

Overview The Queens Dowry Unpatented Lode Claim is truly a hidden gem for Colorado Lode Mines. ​ Featuring 4 adits and over 7 shafts this mine is a historic past producer with significant site workings located upon a unique Quartz reef high on a mountaintop ridge. ​ The area within the claim and tailings piles are extremely mineralized and boast both free milling gold ore and various refractory ores associated with the deposit. ​ The mine was developed and worked just before WW2 and since then the mine has not re-opened on a commercial level. ​ Overall horizontal underground workings are estimated at between 1,200 to 1,500 feet total across the various mine adits. Vertical shaft workings are estimated to be between 300 to 400 feet. over 10 prospect pits ranging from 5 feet deep to 20 feet deep are scattered across the claim. ​ There is a significant amount of surface ore located outside of the various mine and shaft portals. A rough total estimate would place the amount of surface ore at approximately 8,000 to 10,000 tons. ​ After surveying the location it is very obvious the old miners were high grading the ore body. Taking the best material and leaving everything else on the surface. This is more than likely due to the lack of processing facilities onsite and transportation costs. This means that while the ore material left on the surface was not financially viable for the old miners; with better access and modern technology advances in gold recovery what was old is now new, opening up a host of material already on the surface that is a great spot to begin processing.

This mine was actively producing until the war act of WW2 shut all mining down across the west including the Queens Dowry Lode as gold & silver was not considered wartime materials. Since then the mine has never re-opened on a commercial level, small amounts of small time exploration work was done but does not amount to anything of substance due to the lack of exploration funding for the project.
