A geochemist from Western Australia’s Curtin School of Mines has discovered a new mineral in samples dug up from the Kalgoorlie Super Pit.
The microscopic, silvery coloured material was noticed by Dr Kristen Rempel in January of last year, while she was examining samples held in the University’s museum, and subsequent verification and classification culminated in the International Mineralogical Association formally declaring the material a new mineral.
