Australia’s monitoring of overseas mining investments inadequate – report

A new report by the Centre of Exploration Targeting has found that Australia is lagging behind its main competitor nation, Canada, in the strategic use of economic diplomacy involving mining interests, and has found that there is a strong case for closer collaboration between the Australian government and the mining industry on the matter.
The report, ‘Sharing the Benefits: Enhancing Australia’s global leadership in the mining value chain’, finds that in the past decade, Australian mining has grown well beyond the country’s borders and is now a formidable global enterprise operating in all the world’s resources regions. In terms of exploration and mining activity by publicly-listed companies, Australia is number two in the world, with Canada the global leader.
