Description
Sylvania Seeker. This Claim is enjoys a rich dimension of our Gold Discovery History dating back the 1870's. The town of Sylvania was formed from the discovery of a Silver, Gold and Lead Ore in the area, hence, several supporting structures were built in the area, ranging from log cabins and other buildings. Due to the renewed mining interest in the area, in the 1970's you will find more modern buildings integrated with the historic ones. The Ghosttown of Sylvania is just beyond the Claim. The town itself is a Patented Claim and therefore private property. If you research the town you will find that there was a General Store, a blacksmith and supporting services of the the like, that you would find back in those times. I have included a link to a video on Youtube that I did not take, but that will give you a view of the structures on in the town.
The mine has the Head frame, which the main mine has been back filled with rock and some dirt. You would need to reopen it. There is some metal working, in the form of a tube, which would leave one to believe that it was used to vent air into the mine, not something you see everyday. There is an Adit Shaft and some tailings to work. There are areas to camp here, and the road is in decent shape, with a high clearing 2 wd vehicle at the time I was there. The area does see some snow in the winter at times, but in most cases, not very heavy. The towns of Goldfield and Beatty NV would be best for gas, lodging, convenience stores etc although Beatty is more modern and has more of a selection. Goldfield is a place to visit as this is where the infamous Virgil Earrp was killed. Another piece of our history not to be missed if you are nearby.
This is a excellent Claim and one to be enjoyed as it is part of our Gold Rush era history.
