BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold and Zijin Mining Group. The Porgera Gold Mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.

Position Objective

The Alternate Underground Manager – Growth & Strategy is responsible for the designing, managing and planning the Underground Mine Expansion which will enable achievement of the Life of Mine Plan.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project Manage the Underground Mine Expansion 1.8MTPA and conduct periodic update/strategy and planning meetings to align with the Underground Life OF Mine Growth Plan.

  • Create, develop and manage a detailed 4 year schedule identifying all key milestones, execution and timing of key deliverables, capital and operating expenditure timing.

  • Develop and escalate Monthly Reporting on progress in all key areas and communicate directly with key stakeholders.

  • Review and have input in to the Life of Mine Plan to ensure alignment with the UG growth strategies.

  • Review and have input in to the Budget and 13-week Plan to ensure alignment with the UG growth strategies.

 

To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following:

  • Significant experience in Underground gold mining, including several years in leadership roles managing large underground production and development crews

  • Experience in Life of Mine Planning and Budgeting including the development, implementation of production, development and training management systems

  • Demonstrated experience in development of frontline superintendents, supervisors and mining engineers

  • Recognised tertiary qualifications in Mine Engineering

  • Ability to obtain PNG Metalliferous Mine Managers Certificate of Competency

  • The ability and willingness to train and develop national employees;

  • Current Drivers Licence.

     

    Your primary location will be the Porgera Mine Site. An on-travel allowance will be provided to candidates who reside outside of Cairns, Australia. Alternatively the Company will provide assistance as per BNL Relocation Policy to relocate the successful candidate to Cairns, Australia if the candidate holds a current visa to reside in Australia. The roster for this role is a fly in, fly out rotation on 16 days on, 12 days off.
