Analyst, Corporate Development

The Corporate Development group focuses on optimizing Goldcorp’s portfolio of assets by recognizing strategic opportunities suitable for external growth. The overall objective of the group is to generate, review, analyze, and promote opportunities consistent with the Company’s corporate strategy.
The scope of this role is to collect technical and financial industry information about possible projects suitable for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and other value creating ad-hoc projects. As such, the Analyst, Corporate Development will be tasked with assisting the Corporate Development Group in conducting thorough analysis through various business valuation methodologies, and communicating recommendations to senior management.
Responsibilities:
The Analyst, Corporate Development will be responsible for monitoring development and acquisition activities within the industry as relevant to Goldcorp’s M&A strategy, and effectively communicating these activities to management. Potential target opportunities will be identified, monitored and screened. The incumbent will be tasked with analyzing the impact of potential growth opportunities to the Company based on an agreed upon set of parameters. In order to determine the impact of growth opportunities and to establish execution plans as needed, the Analyst, Corporate Development will conduct thorough technical and financial analyses, and will assist with due diligence activities.
This role will be required to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, developing strong relationships with various members of the industry, such as other mining executives, investment bankers and legal counsels, as well as colleagues from other groups within Goldcorp, participating in due diligence activities, and aiming to fully understand the potential impacts of areas such as tax, accounting, finance, legal and human resources on transactions. Demonstrating strong communication and presentation skills, the Analyst, Business Development will be required to generate reports documenting reviews, analyses and recommendations to senior management for review.
Secondary responsibilities will include supporting the development of the corporate growth strategy and the preparation of presentations to the executive team and to the board of directors.
Qualifications
The Analyst, Business Development will hold a Bachelor’s degree, along with 2-5 years of industry experience in mining related capital markets (investment banking, equity research and/or corporate development) or a mining related technical field (geology, mining/mineral engineering, metallurgy). An MBA or CFA is not required, but considered an asset.
In addition, the ideal candidate should possess some financial understanding including valuation methodologies, and some financial modeling skills. Strong business acumen and the ability to evaluate opportunities on the basis of practical and operational aspects, as well as financial returns are equally important.
To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate should display an interest in, and an inherent desire to keep current with the mining industry and ongoing developments, as well as current and past M&A activities, and possess some understanding of the dynamics of the precious metals market. Extensive travel to remote locations around the world and to industry specific conferences may be required at times. Fluency in English is required; Spanish and/or French speaking capability is an asset.
