Newmont Mining Corporation (NYSE: NEM) has recently acquired the Cripple Creek & Victor (“CC&V”) gold mine in Colorado.  CC&V is undergoing an expansion that is about two-thirds complete with remaining development capital expected to be fully funded through operating cash flow. The expansion includes a new mill to augment production, improve recovery on higher grade ore, and add capacity for a potential underground operation. The mill is up and running, and expected to reach full production capacity later this year. The expansion also features a second leach facility and new recovery plant, which are expected to be in production in the second half of 2016.

Located near Colorado Springs in Teller County, Colorado, Cripple Creek & Victor has been in operation since 1995. CC&V is a surface mine that provides ore to a crusher and a leach facility. The operation is currently two-thirds through an expansion which includes a new mill, now in production; and a new leach facility and recovery plant, which will be commissioned during the second half of 2016.

CC&V seeks Lab Technicians who will be responsible for preparing and processing ore samples collected at the mine site. This position reports to the Lab Supervisor. Essential job duties include:

  • Lead by example, in all CC&V safety processes, ensuring complete safe practices;
  • Must be able to read, write, and possess basic math and science skills to complete daily reporting requirements;
  • Ability to competently and safely operate forklift, hauling and dumping reject trailer, jaw crusher, ring and puck pulverizers and continuous mill;
  • Split, blend and load samples into oven while keeping samples in sequential order;
  • Operate and Troubleshoot  ICP, AA, and Leco C/S analyzers;
  • Determine gold and silver content on carbon and ore samples using fire assay technique that includes weighing, fluxing, fusing, cupelling, parting, re-inquarting, and micro-balance weigh-back or ICP finish;
  • Perform cyanide soluble gold analysis on ore samples;
  • Ability to safely work with different types of chemical including but not limited to cyanide, acid, and caustic
  • Successful applicant must have a willingness to work wherever needed. 
Qualifications
  • General labor experience; ability to stand for long periods of time and routinely lift 60 pounds;
  • Adjust to repetitious work in hot and dusty conditions;
  • Wear and use all required PPE (respirator, hard hat, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs, etc.);
  • Knowledge of databases and spreadsheets is desirable;
  • Will be required initial and period of blood screening for heavy metals
