Position Description:

The Barrick Nevada (BNV) Technology and Systems (TAS) Networking Lead is responsible for IT Network related activities and personnel across all BNV operational, administrative and closure sites, working closely with other BNV TAS functions, business operations and BNV leadership. They must understand, balance and manage Networking work and resources across these sites. They manage this function with the primary focus of implementing, supporting and maintaining reliable technologies that enable BNV to achieve its business results relative to growth and cost-effectiveness.  They manage and support the career development of all BNV TAS Network Technicians in a culture that values a hands-on, highly responsive approach to identifying and addressing technology opportunities and issues. Activities include problem and issue analysis and remediation, deployments, hardware acquisition, installation and integration.  The Networking lead also supports financial planning and management for their function within TAS. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Networking activities across all BNV operational, administrative and closure sites.

  • Monitor and manage to service levels and KPIs.

  • Look for ways to reduce the inflow of work through root cause analysis and to automate and standardize how frequent activities are performed to enhance business value, response time and cost effectiveness.

  • Ensure focus on the implementation, support and operations of technology solutions with the highest business impact while eliminating, automating or minimizing work that does not have a high and positive impact to business results.  Balance operational and project priorities.

  • Manage consulting and vendor resources that will be engaged in delivery activities. Knowledgeable of vendor practices and able to drive optimal cost and service agreements.

  • Monitor network performance and generate reports, trends and capacity planning and ensure hardware operation for LAN, WAN, Radio, Telecommunications, copper and fiber optic connections.

  • Manage the maintenance of Cisco routers, switches and wireless technologies.

  • Supervise network troubleshooting to isolate, diagnose, fix and prevent problems.

  • Maintain an understanding of the TAS vendor / consultant work that is upcoming and serve as a point of contact for these activities that are outside of Networking.

  • Balance Networking workload and priorities across sites relative to staffing personnel. Make and adjust work schedules and assignments to support business needs.

  • Ensure Networking personnel understand career development and career path opportunities and understand and support employee career objectives.

  • Support forecasting and financial management activities for TAS.

  • Demonstrate comfort in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift frequently.

  • Possess exceptional organization and time management skills.

  • Perform other duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Two (2) year or four (4) year technical degree or engineering degree, and/or certification or equivalent experience required.

  • Cisco Certifications preferred.

  • Minimum 7 years of IT experience in required.

  • Minimum 4 years previous management experience required.

  • Experience managing project scope, quality, resources, work plans, risks and schedule required.

  • Exposure to servers, storage, LAN, WAN, Oracle, LIMS, Wireless Infrastructure, Sarbanes Oxley compliance, Cisco, Windows, UNIX, Linux, phone systems, satellite and microwave technology a plus.

  • Mining experience preferred.

  • Experience negotiating with and managing contractors.

  • Experience and understanding of managing technology projects that drive business results.

  • Understanding of financial modelling, and impact of projects on overall business.

  • Governance and risk management experience.

  • Experience or familiarity with Agile and Waterfall methodologies preferred.

  • Experience with project management tools such as MS Project, SharePoint, JIRA, etc.

    This position is located within Barrick Nevada and assigned to a specific site directed by the BNV TAS Site Leader. Travel between BNV sites as required.
