The Hemlo Operations of Barrick Gold is located just north of Lake Superior on the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy No. 17) approximately 40 km east of Marathon, Ontario and approximately 340 km east of Thunder Bay, which is the nearest major centre.

 

Position Description:

 

Barrick Hemlo is looking for a Buyer to join the Supply Chain team.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Reporting to the Supply Chain General Foreman, the Buyer, is responsible for the following:

  • Administer, coordinate and process purchasing acquisition (i.e. contracts, purchase orders, etc.) for goods and services for the Corporation. Ensure consistency and compliance with the terms and conditions, guidelines, procedures and signing authorities of the Corporation. 
  • Implementation and maintenance of Fixed Purchase Agreements (FPA’s) and support and compliance of Barrick policies and procedures and commercial conditions
  • Proactively resolves complex issues and demonstrates innovative thinking by regularly making recommendations for new approaches to the purchasing of goods and adjudication of services.
  • Ability to effectively plan, execute and deliver recommendations and prepare proposals. 

  • Support the continuous improvement and execution of Barrick’s purchasing strategy, policies and guidelines in regard to materials categories and contracts; cost savings and other performance metrics
  • Support the material contracting needs with the user areas as well as identify and develop suppliers in the market to support commercial and operation needs
  • Acquire materials according to the operations requirements, obtaining the best total cost of ownership, term of execution and quality conditions, sourcing using Ariba
  • Provide suggestions to improve transactional practices for activities related to the materials purchasing process
  • Ensure timely and professional service to user departments in the execution of purchase orders
  • Prepare reports for the Supply Chain department
  • Develop and foster successful, long-term relationships with key suppliers.
  • Know and comply with the current Mining Safety and Health regulations and Loss Prevention procedures of Barrick
  • Demonstrate social awareness, commitment and compliance with Barrick’s Social Responsibility Policy.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all Corporation information.

  • Maintain safe working conditions and adheres to all Corporation policies, procedures and guidelines. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications:

           

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Industrial Engineering or related field

  • Minimum four (4) years of related procurement experience in the mining sector

  • Strong computer skills using office software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Oracle ERP

  • Ability to be an integral team member in a growing, fast-paced environment

  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills with the ability to communicate and interact effectively with a wide variety of people

  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills & the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent knowledge of end-to-end supply management processes including competitive bidding, contract management and supplier performance management.

  • Highly driven and self-motivated, strong negotiation skills, conflict resolution, able to manage a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Successful completion of the Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) an asset.
