Barrick (Niugini) Limited (“BNL”) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold and Zijin Mining Group. The Porgera Gold Mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.
We seek to appoint a Chief surveyor who will be responsible for delivering all survey requirements for the open pit and underground. The Chief Surveyor will report directly to the Mine Technical Services Manager.
Ensure accurate mapping of all mining areas, surface excavations, ore stockpiles and waste dumps.
You will be required to apply and monitor survey systems to ensure mine production requirements are delivered to agreed standards and also to formulate alternatives and improvements to systems and methods
Produce end of month survey data and volumes for EOM reporting
Manage systems for the control and delivery of survey requirements for underground and open pit mines
Manage systems for the lay out and maintenance of survey reference marks underground and in open pit, for control of drilling, development, services and production activities
Be able to produce and maintain accurate as-built surveys of the underground mine, open pit mine and all associated facilities and structures
Coordinate and manage projects within area of accountability, to achieve completion to agreed quality, budget and schedule
Assist in improving Mine Survey and Mine Engineering Systems to ensure optimal ore delineation and extraction
Ensure the regular review of mine survey processes and investigate, assess and where appropriate, trial new methods or technology
Develop and monitor targets for improvement in survey accuracy and service delivery
To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following:
Tertiary qualifications in Surveying or Bachelor Applied Science (Surveying)
PNG Mine Surveyors Certificate of Competency or equivalent or ability to obtain
Extensive mine surveying experience in senior roles within Underground and Open Cut Mine Surveying
Experience in survey requirements for declines, roadways, benches, stopes, buildings, stockpiles and waste dumps
The ability and willingness to train and develop national employees;
Current Drivers Licence
Your point of hire will be Cairns, Australia and your primary location will be the Porgera Mine Site. An on-travel allowance will be provided to candidates who reside outside of Cairns, Australia. The roster for this role is a fly in, fly out rotation on 16 days on, 12 days off.
The Company will provide assistance as per BNL Relocation Policy to relocate the successful candidate to Cairns, Australia if the candidate holds a current visa to reside in Australia. The offer for this role is conditional upon the candidate successfully obtaining and retaining a visa that allows you to work in Papua New Guinea.
