Description:

Our Client is seeking a Director of Operations to work closely with the departmental directors and managers to ensure, initially, that Operation Readiness goals are determined and implemented during the Project Execution phase and to, ultimately, take responsibility of all Operations activities at the mine site on business objectives.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of the Business Unit, and indirectly, during the Project Execution phase, to the Project Director, the Director of Operations will be responsible for all Operational Readiness activities during Project Execution and for developing and implementing the strategic business plans of the Operations Area and for organizing the specific production processes related to the Mine, in order to achieve the best possible results in terms of production, quantities, quality and cost. This position will also be responsible for planning, organizing and controlling the operations and production processes of both the direct report managers and each site areas, before and during the operations stage.

JOB SUMMARY:

Provide strategic resourcing support to the Project team. Coach departmental directors and managers in the development of resourcing plans and drive delivery of recruiting efforts for strategic and key operational hires in accordance with a defined resourcing and manpower loading schedule.
Provide critical oversight of operations reporting. Provide expert overview and deployment of reporting to ensure concise, integrated reporting of key performance indicators and critical monitoring functions across the business unit.

Provide strategic leadership, management oversight and control of the Project Operational Readiness Program.

Manage overall operational readiness for the commencement of operations of the Project, identify any gaps and issues relating to operational readiness, organizational readiness, mining, processing, downstream services, asset management, procurement, inventory and contracts management, human resources, HSEC, commissioning, testing and acceptance, handover and ramp up to nameplate.

Engage operations, maintenance and support teams to identify interface issues and promote harmonious working relationships.

Oversee a critical review of policies and procedures, designed to identify gaps, overlaps and conflicts, promote the development of an efficient set of business rules which promote clarity of roles, responsibilities and functions between departments and divisions.

Devise an operational risk profile of the project, manage and mitigate critical identified risks.

Identify new growth opportunities within or adjacent to Project and to develop strategies aimed at guiding the Operations Team towards exploitation of such opportunities.

Ensure the operation of facilities that are both safe, in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental and Community System, and efficient, in order to achieve maximum production at the lowest possible cost while maintaining the quality standards, production programs and company values.

Develop and implement strategies for the Operations Area that enable compliance with standards and regulations relating to safety, the environment, productivity, cost and the working environment, as well as legal regulations.

Allocate resources and coordinate activities to ensure compliance with the objectives proposed in terms of production, productivity, costs and quality of the operation.

Plan and coordinate all activities with the operation in order to guarantee sustained production.

Ensure the final product meets the established quality standards.
Identify opportunities, allocate resources and prioritize activities required to meet long-term objectives.

Ensure that the Mine and Concentrator Plant is in good operating condition and that it is monitored by the multidisciplinary work teams responsible for strategy changes, new technologies and changes in regulations and legislation.

Evaluate and approve of maintenance works provided by third parties.
Initiate and Revise the short and long term budgets of each Operations Area, and monitor regular compliance with the goals of each Management Area (production, availability, fleet utilization, expenses, training, and schedule compliance).

Provide and implement strategies that ensure long-term relations with our stakeholders, particularly during implementation of the Mine; Evaluate daily and monthly operating results.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in Mining/Geological/Metallurgical (Mineral Processing) Engineer or a similar degree.

At least fifteen (15) years of experience within mining sector, and five (5) years of prior experience in similar position.

Knowledge of Mining, Metallurgy, production processes and personnel management.

Knowledge of Financial Economics, Management Tools and Balanced Scorecard.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate to all levels within the Company.

Leadership and motivational skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft products including Excel and PowerPoint.
Great attention to detail and organizational skills, and acknowledged ability to exercise appropriate judgment with business practicality in areas of responsibility are essential.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in the mining industry preferred.
Experience with SAP a plus.
