Barrick (Niugini) Limited (BNL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold and Zijin Mining Group. The Porgera Gold Mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.
Position Objective
The Environmental Manager is responsible for management of the Environmental team including the designing and managing systems to enable excellent environmental management at the Porgera operations and to ensure environmental management obligations are met.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Deliver the Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan (EMMP) in consultation with the PJV Management team.
Manage the implementation and improvement of ISO 14001 compliant EMS at Porgera.
Design and establish the systems to manage reclamation of disturbed land and scientific monitoring, interpretation and control of environmental impacts.
Obtain and maintain all necessary environmental licenses and assign and agree line responsibilities for meeting obligations under these licences.
Ensure all statutory and corporate environmental reporting is deliver to agreed standards.
To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following:
Recognised tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or related discipline.
Significant experience in environmental management, including several years leading a large, multidisciplinary team in the management of environmental impacts associated with a mining and minerals processing operation.
Experience working with the local community to communicate and manage environmental concerns.
Experience in the development of environmental management systems.
Experience in risk identification and control including incident response and recovery planning.
The ability and willingness to train and develop national employees;
Current Drivers Licence.
Your primary location will be the Porgera Mine Site. An on-travel allowance will be provided to candidates who reside outside of Cairns, Australia. The roster for this role is a fly in, fly out rotation on 9 days on, 5 days off, 7 days on, 7 days off roster.
The Company will provide assistance as per BNL Relocation Policy to relocate the successful candidate to Cairns, Australia if the candidate holds a current visa to reside in Australia. The offer for this role is conditional upon the candidate successfully obtaining and retaining a visa that allows you to work in Papua New Guinea.
