Position Description:

 

Barrick is looking for an Accountant to join the Finance team. Reporting to the Senior Cost Analyst the Hemlo Accountant will be responsible for maintaining up to date daily financial files, assisting in managing/ reviewing capital expenditures, the preparation of budgets/forecasts and performing cost analysis when required with departmental managers as well as being an active contributor in the Finance Team.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Financial presentations and analysis as required

  • Reporting of variances from budget, cost to perform various activities and financial budgets/forecasts.

  • Assist with general ledger accounting; prepare journal entries and account reconciliations

  • Assist with period end close process, including quarterly audits and financial template submissions

  • Maintain up-to-date financial files, ensuring that all balance sheet accounts are reconciled, and appropriate support is maintained.

  • Prepare various reports and provide analysis of variances for key operative parameters;

  • Serve as a key resource in the completion of annual budgets and forecasts and support managers throughout the budget process.

  • Prepare reports to assist management in understanding departmental costs;

  • Identify and track key performance metrics for the operation;

  • Work with and provide information to internal and external auditors as required.

  • Perform responsibilities in full compliance with IFRS and Barrick standards, policies, and procedures

  • Perform other duties as requested by Finance Leadership

  • Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required during peak periods

  • Exceptional personal integrity, ethics and trust required; Excellent team player with strong written and verbal communication skills to work with cross functional teams across multiple teams required.

     

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in a related discipline (Business, Commerce, Accounting, Economics, etc.);

  • Professional accounting designation or working towards designation is required;

  • Previous experience of general accounting and working with general ledgers;

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices;

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with Oracle ERP, Hyperion and Xeras would be considered an asset

  • Ability to adapt to change in a dynamic and growing company;

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize assignments;

  • Exposure to the mining industry in a mining accounting function preferred

The Hemlo property is a home based operation that consists of Williams Operating Corporation, an underground and open pit mine, located approximately 350 kilometers east of Thunder Bay, Ontario.
