Lehigh Hanson Materials Limited, a leading manufacturer of construction materials throughout North America. Lehigh Hanson is part of HeidelbergCement Group, a global producer of cement, ready-mixed concrete, aggregates, and related building materials in more than 50 countries.

This British Columbia facility operates 24/7 and produces 6 million tonnes of aggregates a year. The Sechelt mine is located on the Sunshine Coast and is one of the largest sand and gravel operations in North America and one of the most advanced aggregates operations in the HeidelbergCement Group.

Summary:
Reporting to the Area Operations Manager for British Columbia, this position manages, directs and coordinates the overall mining and production operations for Lehigh’s Sechelt Mine.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to the mine’s management team and employees in all aspects of mining, production, repair and maintenance, quality control and administration.
  • Implement and enhance the mine’s safety program to accomplish Lehigh’s “zero harm” standard.
  • Establish positive employee/labour relations, promote teamwork at all levels of the organization and encourage employee development and training.
  • Develop, implement and execute specific strategies, plans and objectives to maximize the utility of resources, continuously improve the mine’s productivity and minimize costs.
  • Develop operating budgets and ensure their successful implementation.
  • Identify capital spending projects, prepare their authorization and ensure successful implementation of the recommended projects.
  • Oversee compliance with environmental and mining regulations, policies and procedures and continue the mine’s award winning reclamation program.
  • Develop and maintain a constructive relationship with the company’s First Nations partners.
  • Establish and maintain community relations to sustain a positive profile within the community.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • University degree, preferably in Engineering (Mining, MECH, Civil), Geology or Business Administration or equivalent experience
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and motivate employees at all levels of the organization
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in mining or building materials production
  • Substantial leadership experience
  • Proven track record of achieving results in a complex production environment
  • Knowledge of collective agreements and experience working in a unionized environment
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • Excellent knowledge of business/financial management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new computer software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
