Position Description:
Barrick Nevada is looking for a Safety and Health Specialist to join the Safety and Health team. The Safety and Health Specialist will work with Senior Safety and Health staff and division management to recommend and develop strategies to identify and control risk in the workplace.
Responsibilities:
Develop safety related training and facilitate safety training sessions to include: New Hire, Hazard, and Annual Refresher Training
Assist site supervision with area Safety and Health Inspections/Audits.
Participate in regulatory inspections as the Safety and Health Subject Matter Expert (SME)
Act as the Safety and Health SME during root cause investigations
Follow-up and audit assigned safety incident corrective actions, audit site contractor adherence to One Cortez Safety and Health Standards
Participate in Formal and High Level Risk Assessments
Coach and Mentor employee’s based safety teams
Seek out and act on personal development and education opportunities
Provide support to fellow Safety and Health team members
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene or related field or three to four (3-4) years of S&H or IH experience or equivalent education and experience required
Ability to work with and communicate to all levels of management and federal agencies required
Demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task in a fast paced, demanding environment required
Proven safe work record required
Ability to drive results and ensure completion of time sensitive deadlines required
Ability to use Microsoft Office software systems required
Valid Driver’s License required
Previous MSHA/ Instructor training experience (blue card) preferred
Knowledge of MSHA standard/ regulations preferred
Surface and Underground mining experience preferred
Industrial Hygiene general knowledge preferred

Barrick Nevada is an integrated gold mining operation that combines the Cortez and Goldstrike properties in Nevada, employing a total of 3,000 employees and 800 contractors. The operation utilizes both open pit and underground mining methods with Autoclave and Roaster processing facilities at Goldstrike and Milling/Heap Leaching facilities at Cortez.
