Barrick is looking for a Senior Underground Mining Engineer to join the Underground Engineering team. The successful candidate will supervise the development and implement practical long-range mine plans which allow for orderly development and exploitation of economically minable ore reserves. The Senior Mine Engineer will oversee the coordination for the development of holistic long and/or medium range mine plans including mine services, infrastructure, cost, capital and production; as well as perform other duties as assigned. 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the preparation of annual Budget and Life of Mine (LOM) plan and ensure that all corporate requirements are adhered to
  • Compile mid and end-of-the year ore reserves for reporting in co-operation with the Geology section.
  • Undertakes options analysis to continuously improve designs and sequencing
  • Responsible for producing forecasts to project performance against budget in a 0-24-month environment
  • Ensure long term objectives are captured and prioritized in monthly mine plans
  • Compiles capital planning in line with achieving the medium and long-range plans
  • Integrate long term infrastructure construction and maintenance projects pertinent to mine plan
  • Work to resolve conflicting needs between the short term and long-term requirements
  • Provide Chief Engineer, Superintendents and Managers information and guidance as to potential areas of concern regarding the medium and long-range plans
  • Working knowledge of ground control engineering.  Able to solve basic ground control problems and work with geotechnical engineering group and operations to develop solutions to more advanced concerns
  • Working knowledge of mine ventilation engineering.  Able to solve basic mine ventilation problems and work with mine ventilation engineering group and operations to develop solutions to more advanced concerns
  • Incorporates the use of automation and application of digital technologies in mine design and planning
  • Supervising medium- and short-term planners 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering or related field required

  • Supervisory experience preferred

  • Five (5) years’ experience in the mining industry required

  • Two (2) years’ experience in underground short-term planning  required

  • Experience working in a mining operation with a range of exposure to a broad spectrum of practical and technical areas required

  • Proficient level in the use of mine planning software and mine design experience required

  • Must be willing and able to work in a dynamic and changing environment required

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required

  • Excellent safety record with the ability to demonstrate safety leadership required

  • Aware, recognize and utilize continuous improvement initiatives and processes preferred

  • Ability to perform all essential functions of this position required

Barrick Nevada is an integrated gold mining operation that combines the Cortez and Goldstrike properties in Nevada, employing a total of 3,000 employees and 800 contractors. The operation utilizes both open pit and underground mining methods with Autoclave and Roaster processing facilities at Goldstrike and Milling/Heap Leaching facilities at Cortez.
