Position Description:
Barrick is looking for an Underground Drill and Blast Supervisor to join our Barrick Nevada Cortez District Underground Operations.
Responsibilities:
Safely and effectively coordinate and manage drill and blast program for underground operations
Apply strong leadership to execute the mine plan and improve performance by leading an operations team to deliver safe, environmentally sound and efficient gold production
Comply with State and Federal legal regulations, Barrick Safety and Environmental policies and procedures
Cooperate with supervisors, coordinators and managers on management of safety and environmental issues, including complying with any instructions
Intervene, as necessary, to ensure the health and safety of others in the workplace and to protect the environment
Attend scheduled or unscheduled safety meetings
Complete regular safety inspections of the workplace and audit work practices
Inspect work for loose material and any hazardous conditions that can pose a risk to personnel or equipment
Coordination and supervision of drill and blast daily work requirements using the 4P philosophy (People, Planet, Property and Production)
Manage and support drill and blast contractor activities
Conduct daily line out meetings and monthly safety meetings
Positive and effective working relationship with Production, Maintenance, and Technical teams
Ensure that Production has manpower available to meet the production plan by managing manpower effectively
Excellent and demonstrated personal commitment to safety & health – completing one FLRA (field level risk assessment) per week and ensuring any findings are documented and actioned
Provide support to Safety Division through participation in fishbone and taproot exercises and follow up on action plans
Support regulatory requirements in the area of safety, health, environment and the community
Continually drive process improvements through effective budgeting, monitoring and scheduling
Focus on “visible felt leadership” by interacting with personnel “in the field” (minimum of 30% of working time)
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years experience in drill and blast activities required
• Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite software required
• Excellent written and oral communication skills preferred
• Minimum 5 years supervisory experience or lead person required
• Planning, problem solving, decision making and organizational/interpersonal skills preferred
