There is clear indication that there will be an increase in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity for smaller players in the mining sector this year, and that the majors will increase divestitures to focus on core commodities, in turn benefiting some of the mid-tiers, which are able to make acquisitions, a recent survey by international executive search firm Pedersen & Partners has found.
The survey of 114 executives across the sector showed that nearly 80% of the respondents suggested that M&A activity will likely be part of their 2017 strategy.
