Mining major BHP Billiton on Friday denied that it had reached a settlement with the Federal Attorney General from the State of Espirito Santa, in Minas Gerais.
In November last year, Brazil’s federal and certain state governments announced their intention to lodge a $5.2-billion legal claim against the partners of the Samarco joint venture (JV), to fund clean-up costs and damages following the November 5 tailings spill at the Samarco operation.
