Colombian energy capacity secure as it unveils ‘six-pillar’ mining strategy

Despite the resignation of Colombia’s mines and energy minister Tomas Gonzalez on Monday, owing to the country’s slow response to severe drought, incoming Mining Minister María-Isabel Ulloa told Mining Weekly Online the country was keen to change outside investor perceptions through its newly launched ‘six-pillar’ mining strategy.

Colombia had been suffering droughts exacerbated by extreme El Niño conditions, disrupting the country’s important mining sector after the drought had crippled its hydroelectric capacity that supplied around 70% of national power.
