Constellation Awards $38,000 in Grants to 81 Community Champions in 10 States

BALTIMORE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Constellation today named 81 new grant recipients through its Community Champions program, donating nearly $38,000 to community organizations focused on education, youth development and environmental projects. Constellation’s Community Champions allows the company’s residential electricity and natural gas supply customers to nominate a local project or cause for grant funding. The next deadline for grant submissions is May 15, 2016.

“Constellation is proud to help our residential customers support educational and environmental initiatives in their communities,” said Bruce Stewart, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Constellation. “Since the program’s launch in 2013, Constellation’s Community Champions program has awarded over $200,000 in funding to more than 400 worthy projects nominated by our customers.”

Constellation customer Emily Barksdale will use her $500 Community Champions grant to help future journalists at Ann Richards Middle School in Dallas practice photography skills.

“Because of Constellation’s support, we will be able to provide equipment for aspiring student photographers,” Barksdale said. “As a result of this project, our students will not only have the opportunity to learn photography composition and other photojournalistic principles, but also to apply their knowledge to document the activities at our school in class, athletics, clubs, and the arts, and ultimately be afforded a glimpse of careers to which they might aspire.”

Constellation customer Gary Gropper of St. Mary’s, Ga., will use a $500 Community Champions grant to support the St. Mary’s Georgia Garden Club’s “Go Green” project for junior gardeners that focuses on tree planting throughout the community.

“This generous grant will be extremely helpful in our ability to expand the Arbor Day program,” Gropper said. “We look forward to having other local organizations join us with our project. As more people become involved, there will be greater opportunities to plant additional trees within our city and county.”
