The North Gauteng High Court has ruled in favour of environmental justice organisation, Earthlife Africa (ELA), on the basis that the climate change impacts of the proposed Thabametsi coal-fired power station, had not been properly considered. In South Africa’s first climate change court case, Earthlife Africa had challenged a decision by Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa to reject the organisation’s appeal against the environmental authorisation granted to the power station.
