With the oil extraction processes from oil sands comes an initial high water demand and leaves a contaminated aqueous by-product.  Governmental regulations required the handling of the leftover water, sand and clay mix, known as tailings, to be reclaimed rather than settling slowly in ponds. The oil industry had to have this done inexpensively in order to make their efforts worthwhile.  Calling on Komax’s expertise, both demands were met. How Does it Work?

When you mix a polymer with the clay slurry, you induce a chemical reaction to remove the effluent tailings. This adaptive approach results in no fouling, which complies with the need to reduce tailing ponds and their carbon footprint.
