Konecranes Has Been Selected to Provide All of the Cranes for Commercial Metals Company’s (CMC) Newest Micro Mill Project in Durant, Oklahoma
SPRINGFIELD, OH–(Marketwired – April 21, 2016) – Global lifting leader Konecranes won the order for 10 heavy-duty, built-up steel mill overhead cranes for the project, which will mirror CMC’s existing micro mill in Mesa, Arizona. The scope of supply includes a scrap-handling crane, melt-shop crane, melt-shop auxiliary crane, ladle repair crane, rolling-mill process crane, rolling mill auxiliary crane, stand shop maintenance crane, two finished goods cranes, and one additional maintenance crane. CMC stated in a press release dated July 27, 2015, that they will produce low-cost, high quality steel products at this facility and anticipate commissioning of the micro mill to occur during the fall of 2017.
All of the cranes will be built at the Konecranes Houston, Texas manufacturing facility, which has fielded several other orders from CMC over the years.
“Konecranes goal is to be a life-time partner in achieving the lowest cost of ownership for our customers,” says Doug Maclam, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Industrial Equipment, Konecranes Region Americas. “We are pleased to receive a major order in the steel sector where we have developed a significant niche over the years, but are also very gratified be selected by a valued customer once again.”
The cranes will feature heavy-duty built-up trolley designs featuring Konecranes proven two-point drum suspension and 90 degree wheel bearing housings, specifically for steel mill applications. The scrap handling crane, primary melt shop and finishing goods cranes will include an operators cab, while the remaining cranes will be radio-controlled. All cranes utilize Konecranes DynAHoist stepless variable frequency hoist controls and DynAC variable frequency bridge and trolley controls. Many of the cranes include the company’s Extended Speed Range feature, which has been designed to lift up to twice the normal full load speed with reduced loads. The reduced cycle times can substantially enhance productivity in the mill.
Other signature technologies include Konecranes own high quality gearing ground to AGMA Quality Class 11 standards and its TRUCONNECT® Remote Monitoring, which uses sensors to gather usage data-running time, motor starts, work cycles and brake condition. This information can be viewed by the customer at any time from Konecranes online customer portal, yourKONECRANES.com, to help make informed, fact-based, maintenance decisions. Safety alerts can also be set up and delivered automatically by email or text message to notify designated contact personnel of selected safety risk events.
Crane deliveries will occur in phases during 2016. Konecranes will install the cranes and perform load testing and start-up as part of the supply.
