Sandvik signs new global strategic cooperation deal with JCHX in Beijing

On February 11, Stefan Widing, President and CEO of Sandvik Group, the global mining equipment manufacturer, visited the Beijing headquarters of contract mining major JCHX and was received by Wang Xiancheng, Chairman of JCHX and Wang Cicheng, Executive Vice President.

JCHX says the two sides reached consensus on further expanding the breadth and depth of their cooperation and formally signed a new global strategic cooperation agreement.

During the talks, the two sides first reviewed the history of their friendly cooperation since working together on the Pulang block caving copper project in Yunnan, and in particular the latest outcomes of practical cooperation on the introduction of high-performance equipment and digital solutions for the Khoemacau Copper Mine (KCM) in Botswana, part of MMG Ltd. Wang Xiancheng introduced JCHX’s plans for its global business layout and development, with the two sides also discussing the establishment of a mine workers training school by Sandvik in Botswana.

Stefan Widing shared the latest developments of the Sandvik Group, looking forward to further deepening cooperation and mutual benefit with JCHX. He said that Sandvik will fully ensure the large-scale and efficient mining of the KCM copper mine with high standards of products and full support with services. He also said Sandvik will work with JCHX to help it achieve its expansion goals and strategic plans, including intelligent transformation.

After the meeting, Wang Cicheng and Mats Eriksson, President of Sandvik Mining, signed the new global agreement; with both sides also finalising an outline for planned equipment purchases for 2026. Already in 2025, Sandvik announced a SEK 450 million contract from JCHX for equipment to be used at KCM including loaders, trucks and drills, as well as access to digital monitoring solutions, including Remote Monitoring Service.

Major mines outside China where JCHX has contracts in Africa alone include the Kamoa-Kakula copper mine in DRC, owned primarily by Ivanhoe Mines and Zijin Mining. Also in DRC it is the mining and development contractor for Kipushi, a joint venture between Ivanhoe and Gécamines, a DRC state-owned mining company. And it has contracts at the Metorex-owned Ruashi Mining, Kisenda and Chibuluma Mines operations plus the new Musonoi project at Ruashi – Metorex being part of Jinchuan Group. Finally it is conducting the mining and development at Wanbao Mining’s Kamoya operation.

In Serbia it is also the contractor at the Timok underground copper mine, part of the Zijin Mining owned RTB Bor operation.

Outside of China, JCHX primarily operates its contracting operations through subsidiary JCHX  Kinsey Mining Construction.

It is worth noting that JCHX is also an increasingly important mining company in its own right as well as a contractor. Mines in its own portfolio include Lonshi in DRC, previously owned by ERG; and Dikulushi, also in DRC, which it acquired from a subsidiary of Trafigura. In 2024 it acquired the Lubambe Copper Mine in Zambia plus it is also acquiring CMH Colombia, which owns the development rights to Colombia’s Alacran copper-gold-silver mine.
