The Black Rose #3 Placer Claim is located less than one mile from the historic mining town of Tincup, Colorado. Located in Gunnison County, Colorado. The claim is a 60 minute drive from the town of Gunnison via paved Almont canyon.

From the town of Tincup the claim is less than one mile on dirt Forest Service RD 765. The road goes thru the claim and is easily accessible with 2WD vehicle.

The Black Rose #3 Placer claim provides year round water flow that is sufficient enough for dredging operations. The stream channel changes significantly within the claim from straight fast flowing section to sharp corners producing deep holes and numerous back eddies. A few large boulders can be found on the claim in addition to two small bench deposits. Organic growth along the stream banks would hinder any operations not located within the flowing stream without heavy equipment to strip the first few feet of topsoil and organic material off. Bedrock is variable on this claim with depth to bedrock ranging for 5-6 feet all the way to 12-15 feet deep. The bench deposits do produce fine float gold within the first few feet of cobble but the best gold has been found at or near bedrock. This claim is located in a known area of mining activity and one mining permit has been executed on this claim with another 3 permits being successfully executed on different claims within .25 miles. The permit utilized on this claim was for a small test hold utilizing a high banker and trommel setup on one of the two bench deposits to reach bedrock. The previous owner who worked the permit did find quality gold in the form nugget and fine gold on bedrock.

Upstream from the Black Rose #3 lies numerous hard rock mines that were developed in the late 1800's. This hard rock mining zone of mineralization is believed to be the main source of the gold deposition found on Black Rose #3, additional gold reefs were also located outside of the main mineralization zone further depositing additional gold values on the Black Rose #3. The district was known for its Gold, Silver, Lead, and Copper Production.

Downstream from the claim on Willow Creek lies a gold dredge that was working its way up Willow Creek to the Black Rose #3. The dredge never made it up to the claim leaving the Black Rose #3 untouched by the dredge.

The dredge was stopped due to the crash of precious metals prices and rampant gold theft by the dredge workers. When approaching the Town of Tincup you can still see the old dredge and the massive amount of dredge tailings left behind.
