3.2 Geological Setting.
Chowa South zinc resource is underlain by dolomite and/or limestone of the Upper Roan Formation with minor schists and quartzite. The geology of the resource area consists of mainly four lithological units (Zam-Anglo Explo. Ltd 1970): Grey calcareous argillite, grey to green argillaceous limestone, red to white coarsely crystalline limestone and mainly red, coarsely crystalline dolomite. Drilling by Zambia Broken Hill Development Company Ltd (1972): identified two prominent tabular ore bodies.

3.3 Geological Structure.
The geological structures in the area are dominated by strike-slip faults which are thought to be responsible for the complex geometry of the alternating tongues of Basement Complex and Katanga Stratigraphy. Two folding events are believed to have affected the area and are responsible for tight isoclinals folding (F1) and for the general east-west fold axial trends (F2). The area is bounded by two main shear zones; Kapiri Mposhi Shear zone in the north and the Nyama Dislocation in the south.
