Summary
The Granite Peak property is located on Granite Peak in the headwaters of Copper Creek in Shoshone County, Idaho. Sampling revealed mineralized zones with as much as 2.3% Copper, .21 % Cobalt, .38% Nickel, and .06 oz. per ton Gold. Historically this property has been primarily examined as a Copper prospect with little attention being directed to the nickel, cobalt or gold content. Veins 10ft. thick that dip nearly vertical. Sampling of the vein showed high quantities of copper, cobalt, nickel, and gold associated with sulfides.

Location and Access
The property is located in Shoshone County, Idaho 13 miles south from Red Ives Ranger Station, access is by Forest Service Roads. Elevations range from about 5,600 ft. on a northeasterly facing slope to 6,481 ft on Granite Peak.
Description
The property consists of two unpatented claims covering the old workings of the Elk Prairie/Tillicum Mine. The claim position should be expanded substantially to cover perspective areas. The property has many similarities to the Blackbird-type cobalt-copper model. The Granite Peak property contains veins with high copper-cobalt-nickel content. Characteristics of the Blackbird cobalt-copper deposit model include Proterozoic age argillites, Utite-quartzite host rocks, possibly with some garnet; pyrite, chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite, and pyrrhotite ore minerals; ore in disrupted beds; fine to coarse grained sulfides; and prominent gossans. High gold content was noted locally in the ore. On the Granite Peak property, as at the Blackbird mine, ore mineralization is localized in veins. The major known differences between the Granite Peak property and the Blackbird are in the gangue minerals and the tounnalinites. Quartz, magnetite, ankerite, and siderite are common gangue minerals in the Blackbird area. At the Granite Peak property however, the carbonates seem to contain less iron, and coarse tremolite is present. Also, no tounnalinites have been identified. Veins, containing predominantly chalcopyrite, carbonate (calcite, ankerite, siderite), and quartz, in rocks that probably are Wallace Formation. The mineralogy is usually relatively simple and the vein borders sharp.
Geology
The dominant rock types are fine to coarse-grained, garnet-bearing muscovite schist on the ridge top, underlain by thin-bedded siltstone/quartzite. Both foliation in the schist and bedding in the siltstone/quartzite strike northeasterly and dip at low angles to the northwest. Crosscutting these structures is a steeply- to vertically-dipping shear zone containing pockets of massive sulfides (pyrrhotite, and very small amounts of chalcopyrite and pentlandite). The zone contains massive carbonates (calcite and siderite/ankerite), large green trelolite crystals, and minor quartz, talc, sericite, chlorite, magnetite, and biotite. Cobalt and nickel are associated with the pyrrhotite. At the surface, these minerals are in a red-orange iron oxide zone . Also, present are subparallel massive quartz veins that are up to 10 ft thick, strike N. 65" W., and dip near vertical.
History
The first known report of the prospect was by Collier (1906, p. 136) who mentions, "A rather promising copper prospect in which the ore consists for the most part of carbonates ... " is believed to be this occurrence. In 1951, the U.S. Bureau of Mines examined this property (called the Tilicum prospect) for nickel. It consisted of eight claims (Elk Prairie, Granite Peak. Tilicum, Copper Flat, Copper Point, Copper Head, Copper Creek, and Copper Ridge). Cominco American, Inc., staked claims over the prospect in 1986 as the GP claim group, and consisted of 152 claims, Cominco conducted mapping of the property but abandoned it due to budgetary constraints. An inquiry with Teck American, Inc. in Spokane, WA (Formerly Cominco American) indicates that none of the historic data other than claim notices exist in their database.
