In the pessimistic case, the coal resource up to 150m deep is 180M tons.
Location and Access:
-South of Madagascar
-250Km from Tulear
-Accessible by all-terrain vehicle
Description:
Ianapera basin which is the northward extension of well-known Sakoa coal basin with a reserve amounting 170 million tons up to 300 meters depth (SAARBERG-INTERPLAN, Germany, 1979), is underexplored. It is a 7x11km wide fault trough in the basement. Several coal strips of about 1km strike and limited by faults were mapped at the boundary of the basin. Although the basin has not been drilled, the top of the coal bearing series depth varies from outcrop to 275 metres within the licensed area according to the airborne magnetic data.
