Kitui District is about 150km from the capital city Nairobi. The site intended for exploitation is about 80km from Kitui Town. A map reference for Africa and Kenya are attached in the proposal.

The Central portion of Kenya is predominantly underlain by proferozioc age biotite hornblende and granitoid gneisses, mica schist’s, quartizites, marbles, amphibolites, migmatites and syntectionic granites of the palace-proterozic age. Usagaran super group the eastern, extension of the northerly trending Mozambique mobile belt, which represents the suture between Africa, Antarctica and India. The neoproterozioc palaeozoic age pan African deformation and granulite facies metamorphism has obliterated most of the older structure signatures. In the Mui basin, these high graded metamorphic rocks are over plain by sediments of the palacozoic to Mesozoic age super group which basically contains relatively thin development of low rank coal in areas the rocks of the super groups are concealed by Cenozoic age sediments including sand and soil.

Summarizing the geology of the Kitui east area noted that it is dominated by three lithologies calcic amphibolites (which was also mapped as calc silicates and recrystalised marbles) psammopelitic gneissis and medium to coarse grained pegnatites include hypersthenic, pyroxenites, politic muscovite biotite schists and orthopyroene bearing felsic. Granulites both lithologies are intruded by muscovite and magnetite bearing pegmatites. The basement rock of ENDAU, which is within the pegged area and also an area of major interest, is a Precambrian Sedimentary Rock. The major Iron Ore deposits have been found in Precambrian Sedimentary Rocks. The Earth Atmosphere was poor in Oxygen early in its history and it is now thought that the low availability of Oxygen, allowed an abundance of Iron in its soluble lower Oxidation or Ferrous form to be leached in great quantities from the land surface. The ferrous Iron was transported in solution by ground water to broad.

Kitui District is one of the districts which form part of the Eastern Province and falls within Mui Basin formation. Kitui-east tenement (EPL) lies on the northern plains of central Kenya in the vicinity of Kitui Town, minimum daytime temperatures of 20 degrees centigrade are experienced during the cooler month between June and August, with the temperature rising to 30 degrees centigrade during the warmer months between December and March.

The annual rainfall received is on average 500mm, this falls in the two peaks separated by a brief drier spell. The first of these which is known as the short rains, falls between mid October to December and the long rains between February to mid May. This renders the availability of water for domestic, agricultural and other purposes unreliable. Dry land crops grown include maize, sorghum, and vegetables.
