Emigrant, Montana, USA.

This claim in located in the Gallatin National Forest outside Yellowstone National Park near Emigrant, MT. The claims are accessible by burro or hiking by foot only from Forest Service road. Distance is short, but trail only, (about 1/4 mile). There is a convenient spot to park truck and horse trailer off of the Forest Service Road. Emigrant Montana is famous for its part in the gold discovery of the 1800's. Virtually all of the area in this drainage has been claimed in the present day. These claims are located on very cold mountain creeks and were previously claimed by a mining company in the 1980's. We have re-posted these claims. Using a furnace and a process called cupellation, we obtained about 1/32 ounce of good and 1/8 ounce silver after and afternoon of prospecting with a sluice box we dragged back into the claims. We examined many specimens under a microscope and see a lot of gold that is locked up in pyrite. I can share photos taken through microscope lens. I have not been able to develop a method to effectively separate this type of gold. If I still lived in Montana, I would continue to work at developing this mine. The claim is 60 acres of some of the best wilderness in Montana. Good clean cold water, elk, bear, and plenty of adventure for the ambitious outdoorsman. My boys and I have had a blast prospecting in Montana and especially at this claim.
